Sacred Drama

One of the plays, ‘Out of Chaos’, was performed to a standing ovation in 2014 at the Glastonbury Goddess Conference in the UK.
‘Vulva Anvil, Rage, Compassion’ was toured to Sydney and Mildura as well as Melbourne. It also received a standing ovation at the Sydney Goddess Conference 2018.

Sacred Drama

Goddess drama seeks to explore this question in our lives today. The work we do includes humour, personal experience, political and social commentary, and feminism in our exploration of the lives of women and their relationships, to the Earth, to others and to their own inner being.

The Sacred Drama group at Gaia’s Garden is an ongoing group that meets fortnightly to workshop and improvise.

This has resulted in the development of three plays at Gaia's Garden, performed at Goddess Conferences, and at public events. These include ‘Out of Chaos’ (2014); ‘The Mentor’ (2013) and ‘Vulva Anvil, Rage, Compassion’ (2018).

We have also created ritual pieces and developed and conducted theatre workshops.

One ritual piece - Embraced by the Goddess of Transformation - was devised and used to open the GAIA Inc. Conference in 2012. In 2019 a spiral processional meditation was developed for Yule, and the feedback-by-improvisation technique was used as part of Samhain.

A workshop on Embodying the Elements has been presented twice, including as a workshop at the 2013 GAIA Inc. Conference.

We train in an improvised performance form that relies on feedback from the audience and reflection of this by the players. Using this the group performed the concluding piece summarising the She Gathers Conference in Melbourne in 2016, and created an improvised response to each of the three She Returns Workshops in 2017.

New players are Welcome!

Join a dedicated group that warmly welcomes new participants. Learn a simple but highly effective technique of improvised theatre. Contribute to the development of new performance pieces.

The Commitment

Rehearsals are held from 2.30 to 4.30pm every second Saturday.

Contact

Rehearsals are currently held at the Kathleen Syme Community Centre and Library, 251 Faraday St, Carlton.

Ring Jenny on 0408 438 194 for further information.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Any woman interested in the feminine divine expressed through dramatic forms is warmly invited to make contact about being involved. This is sometimes a regular group and sometimes intermittent, depending upon whether a piece is being developed.

Actors, Directors, Writers, Improvisers and those who don't yet know they are any of these are all welcome.

The group is facilitated by the members, with each contributing from her experience.

At different times we have explored mask-work; embodiment; the ritual/drama nexus; script work and improvisation.

"The creative process shrivels in the absence of continual dialogue with the soul.

And creativity is what makes life worth living."

- Marion Woodman
